MILESTONES
September 15, 1999: Launched the daily newspaper The Daily Deal and Web site Thedailydeal.com with a staff of 40 employees. It opened with a circulation of 20,000 and distribution on the East and West coasts.
March 2000: American Lawyer Media sold the assets of The Daily Deal and Corporate Control Alert to The Deal, LLC, a wholly owned company of U.S. Equity Partners, a fund sponsored by Wasserstein & Co., LP.
November 6, 2000: Editor In Chief Robert Teitelman articulates the deal economy phenomenon and rise of the a new breed of executive - the "corporate dealmaker," in a letter published in the paper and site
December 2000: Launches TheDeal.com, the definitive online news and information resource for dealmakers, their advisors and investors.
November 4, 2002: The Deal, LLC launches newsweekly, The Deal, to complement its newspaper and online edition.
April 19, 2004: Launches Bankruptcy Insider, a three-tier premium content product for bankruptcy and turnaround advisers, combining a weekly newsletter, dedicated Web site and database.
September 2004: Celebrates fifth anniversary of The Deal, the voice of the deal economy.
May 2006: The Deal Blogs Network is unveiled linking The Deal's current blogs, Tech Confidential Blog, Dealscape and Corporate Dealmaker Forum along with new blogs, VC Ratings and TechEffect.
January 16, 2007: The Daily Deal introduces a new look and more interactive functionality.
February 12, 2007: The Deal unveils a new layout and design into a standard-size magazine format.
April 9, 2007: The Deal LLC unveils enhancements and expansions to its database, news and information resource products. The company launches Merger Arb Alert, an M&A database consolidating M&A information risk arb traders use to make daily decisions. The VC Deal database incorporates multiple improvements, offering more comprehensive data on funded companies, VC investors, regions and funding rounds, while adding daily news and editorial from TheDeal.com and The Deal. Auction Block is redesigned and enhanced to allow easier navigation and information access, including more pre-determined search options and data tables.
June 16, 2008: The Deal LLC unveils a revamped home for The Deal newsweekly's content on TheDeal.com, (www.thedeal.com/newsweekly), offering daily interactive content and archives within a community-based forum, and announces a shift in the magazine's online subscription model - the archived newsweekly content, previously only available with a subscription, is now free as of the May 19, 2008 issue.
October 2008: The Deal LLC launches The Deal Pipeline, a news, information and business development tool providing actionable intelligence and idea generation for the global deal community. A licensed product using technology that aggregates the company's proprietary and database content, The Deal Pipeline provides insight on more than 50,000 firms and 40,000 individuals involved in the sell-side and buy-side of dealmaking, powerful search features along with mobile and customized features.
January 2009: The Deal magazine adopts a biweekly schedule, producing 24 issues in 2009, a shift from 38 issues in 2008. This announcement was made in conjunction with the Company's plan to invest heavily in its digital strategy that includes the rollout of The Deal Pipeline and the revamp of TheDeal.com.
April 27, 2009: TheDeal.com, the gateway to the deal economy, relaunches as a community-focused Website with no subscription required. As the homepage to The Deal LLC, the site features blogs Dealscape and Corporate Dealmaker, Deal Video series and special programming, The Deal magazine content and a front door to The Deal Pipeline, the company's premium licensed content product.
