How a company is managed makes all the difference, but taking the reigns at a distressed company can be both wearing and challenging. The Heico Companies LLC's Michael Heisley explained at the TMA/The Deal's Distressed Investing Conference in January that managing a distressed company successfully requires a different psychology and a lot of optimism. - Maria Woehr

This article addresses some of those issues, including the need for effective communication and flow of information between a U.S parent and foreign subsidiary, the impact of foreign employment laws concerning plant closings and employee termination, the option of transferring work overseas, and foreign employee retention. Effectively addressing these and other workplace issues can help achieve significant operational improvements in a company’s international operations.
