"I would say there is an entrepreneurial energy boom in New York and Los Angeles, which is going to give a good race to Silicon Valley," says Alan Patricof (pictured) in our in-depth Behind the Money video interview, in which he contrasts the entrepreneurial cultures of the two cities and the Northern California region.

The distinguished investor, who founded private equity firm Apax Partners nearly 40 years ago and VC firm Greycroft Partners LLC in 2006, has been a voice of reason in the recent economic crisis, urging entrepreneurs not to panic but to tighten their belts and live within their means.

In part two of our video interview, Patricof discusses a wide range of issues facing venture capitalists and the technology startups they back, including the role of advertising and how the current economic slump compares with the dot-com meltdown.
