David Carey is a senior writer on The Deal LLC’s private equity team. In his day-to-day coverage, David writes profiles on private equity firms and in-depth analyses of the PE industry. A seasoned financial journalist who has covered the markets and buyout industry since 1984, David was one of the first to report on important auction news.

CNBC has recognized David’s private equity expertise by frequent invitations to appear as a guest, and he has gone on air to comment on leveraged buyout deals and various private equity industry issues. He has also been quoted in CFO, The Charlotte Observer and The Dallas Morning News. David and a former colleague from The Deal, John E. Morris, are the co-authors of King of Capital, a history of the Blackstone Group. Before working at The Deal, David served as editor of Corporate Finance and wrote for Fortune, Institutional Investor and Adweek, where he authored the Capital column.
