Paul Whitfield

Correspondent: Paris

Paul Whitfield is The Deal’s international mining and energy correspondent based in Paris. Paul also covers international M&A across Europe, Australia and Asia. Most recently he has covered major deals involving BHP Billiton, Rio Tinto, Sanofi-Aventis SA, PetroChina and Hermès International SA. Paul has written extensively on the oil sector—leading coverage of BP’s troubles and its impact on the company’s dealmaking—as well as the nuclear industry and the rise of China as a driver of commodity deals.

Prior to joining The Deal, Paul was a finance and investment writer for a number of British national newspapers including The Independent, Daily Telegraph and Financial Times, as well as BBC. He has also worked as a financial journalist for BBC’s daily business show, “Working Lunch”, and prior to that he was an editor at the short-lived online financial news service UK-iNvest.com. He has also worked at Bloomberg and Marketing Magazine, has contributed to a handful of other investment newsletters and magazines, and has written for the International Herald Tribune. Paul founded the Hampstead Arts & Literature Review and has appeared on Bloomberg TV and British domestic channels as an expert guest.
