Strategic Dealmaking: Talking tech

StrategicDealmaking_227x128.pngDespite global economic uncertainty, the technology sector has been very active for dealmaking in 2012. According to Dealogic, technology ranks No. 2 in deal volume in 2012 among all sectors. 1,128 transactions have been executed as of June 18, with a total deal value of about $63.2 billion.

Putting context to this data were three dealmakers: Greg Psihas of Applied Materials Inc.; Jason Hutchinson of Houlihan Lokey Inc.; and Bruce Bowden of Nuance Communications Inc., who participated in The Deal's roundtable webcast titled "Strategic Dealmaking: Reading the Compass," moderated by The Deal senior editor Suzanne Miller on Thursday, July 21.

The three panelists engaged in a lively 60-minute conversation, touching on the many elements of strategic dealmaking, which included the changing nature of strategic alliances, the increase in involvement of boards of directors in M&A transactions and the growing number of patent deals that have become the lifeblood of tech M&A.

For more coverage of the discussion, listen to the replay here. And here are some of the highlights we tweeted out at #dealscast during the event:
