Is life insurance the next the big boom area for business process outsourcing? It seems Accenture believes it could be. The outsourcing service provider and consultant announced Thursday that it's buying insurance software maker NaviSys. As MarketWatch reported, the move positions Accenture to take on Computer Sciences Corp., the market leader in providing outsourcing services to the life insurance industry.

NaviSys provides processing services from front-office sales to back-office administration to more than 50 insurance companies and distributors, including 17 of the top 20 in the U.S. As Accenture noted in its release, research firm NelsonHall predicts that outsourcing in the life insurance industry is expected to triple by 2010 to $2.17 billion as insurers move to reduce their cost structures and dependence on legacy systems.—Suzanne Stevens
