CBS Corp. announced that Quincy Smith was named president of the newly formed division, CBS Interactive. He will work with CBS divisions to formulate new media strategies and partnerships involving interactive platforms, including Internet, mobile and video gaming. Smith comes to CBS from investment bank Allen & Co. Smith was a founding partner of the Barksdale Group, a venture capital firm. Previously, he spent five years at Netscape, where he ran investor relations and corporate development and played a role in over 20 joint ventures, investments and acquisitions, including Netscape's ultimate sale to AOL. Prior to that, Smith was an investment banker for Morgan Stanley.
The McGraw-Hill Cos. named Peter Davis executive vice president for global strategy. He succeeds Deven Sharma, who was named EVP for investment services and global sales at Standard & Poor's, the firm's financial services business. Davis will focus on developing partnerships and new business opportunities for the McGraw-Hill's education, financial services, and information and media businesses.
Davis was a managing director at Novantas LLC, a management consulting firm, where he was responsible for the capital markets, asset management and commercial and private banking practices. Before that, he worked at Booz Allen Hamilton Inc. and Merrill Lynch & Co.
CJ Wang took up a post as vice president of business development at Vivus Inc., a pharmaceutical company in Mountain View, Calif. He is responsible for establishing development collaborations and commercialization partnerships for VIVUS' late stage products. Wang previously worked at Abmaxis, Inc., a private company that was recently acquired by Merck & Co.
William Albrecht has been named president of acquisitions and divestitures at Texas' Noble Royalties Inc. The firm pursues acquisition, funding and management of oil and gas royalties. Since 1998, Albrecht served as VP of acquisitions and engineering at EOG Resources Inc.
