AVIEL Systems Inc., a federal IT management and consulting services provider, tapped Nick Abate as a vice president of business development. He will be responsible for growing AVIEL's business within the Department of Defense federal services market. A retired U.S. Air Force Colonel, Abate comes to the firm from Alion Science and Technology, where he was the principal program analyst for a $72 billion Air Force program.


Richard Bosworth and Michael Metcalf were recruited as vice presidents of business development at Crescent Hotels & Resorts. They will source and negotiate management and investment opportunities for the Fairfax, Va. firm.
Bosworth was most recently president of NTH Advisory Group, an investment and advisory company specializing in the hotel, restaurant and casino industries. Metcalf was previously vice president of operations for Providence Hospitality Partners, where he handled the operations of four hotels and sales support to an additional seven.


Mylan Laboratories Inc. welcomed David Mulder as senior vice president of corporate and business development. He previously held this title with international generic injectable pharmaceutical company Mayne Pharma. Mulder has also worked with various GE Capital companies leading their corporate and business development activities.
Mylan develops, licenses, manufactures, markets and distributes an extensive line of generic and proprietary products.


Horne International Inc. named Herman Hewitt vice president of business development and strategic growth. He will lead the strategic, business development and sales efforts for the government services company focused on defense and homeland security, environment and energy, and transportation markets. Horne International chairman, president and CEO Darryl Horne said the highest priority right now is to fill the pipeline and expand their position in the federal market. Before this, Hewitt was director and biz dev manager of the federal enterprise solutions group of Siemens Building Technologies, a provider of building controls, fire safety and security system solutions.


Cynthia Arcate has taken on the role of business development director in the alternative energy resources group of Comverge Inc. Arcate will manage business development for the Northeast region of the U.S., including New England and New York. Prior to joining Comverge, Arcate was deputy commissioner for programs at the Massachusetts Division of Energy Resources. — Baz Hiralal
