R.R. Donnelley & Sons Co. has a new trophy for its mantelpiece. The Association for Corporate Growth presented the Chicago provider of print and related services its Outstanding Corporate Growth Award for 2006-2007, recognizing the firm for its push into the business process outsourcing marketplace. CEO Mark A. Angelson will accept the award on RR Donnelley's behalf at a Luncheon on Feb. 20 at The Standard Club in Chicago.

The ACG cited RR Donnelley for having successfully responded to increased competition and rapid technological changes by significantly changing its business model over the past three years. The company made some pretty savvy strategic acquisitions and divestitures over that time — a transformation that was noted in a "Growth Strategy" write-up in the May 22nd Corporate Dealmaker.

The annual ACG Chicago Outstanding Corporate Growth Award has been presented to area companies since 1985. Local award winners are automatically nominated for ACG's National Outstanding Corporate Growth Award, which is presented at the ACG Intergrowth Conference in early May in Arizona. Eighteen companies will vie for the prestigious title of national award winner.

Even in a period when things like toxic credit default swaps and noxious structured investment vehicles dominate the conversation in many parts of the deal community, people are still willing to take the time to recognize skill and achievement in the strategic transactions that help those companies adapt and grow.
