Finnish phone maker Nokia Corp. and Qualcomm have been tussling over a licensing deal that expires next month, litigating in both the US and the UK because they can't agree on terms. On June 9, 2006 Qualcomm filed a complaint with the U.S.'s International Trade Commission requesting an investigation into the alleged infringement by Nokia's GSM products of six Qualcomm patents. But the ITC ordered a stay of the proceedings until further notice. The trial was scheduled to begin on March 5. Add this turn of events to the fact that Qualcomm, which develops chips for wireless devices, removed half of the patents in question from its suit and things are looking good for Nokia.
