French engineering group Alstom SA is entering the wind power sector, signing a deal to acquire Spanish wind turbine company Ecotècnia for €350 million ($471.6 million) in cash. Alstom, which is number two worldwide in urban transportation and has an 18% share of the global market in rail transport, says the deal will boost its hydropower offering as well, where they claim to be the worldwide leader.

Alstrom has supplied more than 25% of the world's installed power generation capacity, and it doesn't look like they intend to slow down. Last Thursday, the firm signed agreements to work with Norwegian gas and oil company Statoil and E.ON AG, one of world's largest power and gas providers. These "green deals" boost Alstom's presence in CO2 capture technology. — Baz Hiralal

From: Anthony Ventura,

Alstrom is going for it and with our world wide crunch they will grow by leaps and bounds.
The U.S. has some catching up to do.

Even in a period when things like toxic credit default swaps and noxious structured investment vehicles dominate the conversation in many parts of the deal community, people are still willing to take the time to recognize skill and achievement in the strategic transactions that help those companies adapt and grow.
