Keith Cowan to head corp strat at Sprint Nextel

On July 9, Keith Cowan will become Sprint Nextel Corp.'s president of strategic planning and corporate initiatives. He will report to chairman and CEO Gary Forsee. Cowan was most recently executive vice president at Genuine Parts Co. He previously spent more than a decade at BellSouth Corp., now AT&T Inc. Cowan also hit the law books at University of Virginia School of Law, eventually becoming a partner at Alston & Bird LLP.

In addition, Cowan will oversee 4G Mobile Broadband, as well as the firm's cable joint venture. John Garcia, president of Sprint/MSO Joint Venture, was named senior vice president of product management and development. The venture was formed by Sprint Nextel, Comcast Corp., Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications Inc. and Advance/Newhouse Communications. — Baz Hiralal
