Last April, General Motors Corp. sold a 7.9% stake in Isuzu Motors Ltd. for about $300 million. The cash-strapped automaker hasn't completely severed ties with its Tokyo competitor, though. In a joint statement, the two firms announced they would reinforce an existing partnership to sell trucks in Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela. The firms expect a feasibility study about the establishment of a joint venture to be completed by the end of this year.

Earlier this week, Isuzu released a business plan that highlighted, among other things, a focus on alliances. Just before that release, Isuzu announced a collaboration with Toyota Motor Corp. on the development, production and supply of small diesel engines.

Also of note, GM completed the sale of its Allison Transmission commercial and military business to the Carlyle Group and Onex Corp. for approximately $5.6 billion on Aug. 7.
