WimaxRadioTower.jpgThe WiMax venture between Sprint Nextel Corp. and wireless broadband service provider Clearwire Corp. is gaining momentum. TheStreet.com cites "people close to the companies" in a report saying a deal may be announced in the next few days. No word on Google Inc. joining the foray, but the article also says the $2 billion joint venture will receive funding from Intel Corp. The deal, which was put on hold back in November, would combine Sprint's licenses in the 2.5-gigahertz wireless spectrum and Clearwire's spectrum in the same and adjoining air waves, according to TheStreet.

Sprint CEO Dan Hesse is pretty committed to this venture. In January, Sprint allied with Amdocs Ltd., a maker of telecom software, to support the launch and operations of the Xohm WiMax initiative. - Baz Hiralal
