As we
reported in February, Nissan Motor Co. CEO Carlos Ghosn would like to have a U.S. joint venture partner. And with Tuesday's news, Chrysler LLC is looking like a good option. The two announced their
second shared manufacturing deal of the year. In January, they announced an agreement for Nissan to supply Chrysler with a new car for limited distribution in South America.
Now, Nissan will manufacture a new small car, based on a Chrysler concept and design, to be sold in North America, Europe and other global markets in 2010, and manufactured at Nissan's Oppama Plant in Japan. In return, Chrysler will manufacture a full-size pickup for Nissan, based on a Nissan design and manufactured at Chrysler's Saltillo (Mexico) assembly plant. The pickups will be available for sale in the U.S. by 2011.
