
Has anyone else been fixated on a certain Elvis Costello song as the Bear Stearns Cos. saga has unfolded and former CEO Jimmy Cayne has come under fire for his hands-off management style?
Now that Bear shareholders have approved the sale of the firm -- with Cayne
in attendance, unfazed by his
unflattering portrayal in a series of Wall Street Journal articles this week -- it's probably a good time to review the
lyrics of Costello's "Blame it on Cain." Though the song dates to the 1977 album "My Aim is True," it seems eerily current, depending on how you view the role of the Feds in the sale. It begins like this:
