CraigMccawBig.pngLast week's  $14.5 billion WiMax deal calls for collaboration between Sprint Nextel Corp., Clearwire Corp., Google Inc., Comcast Corp., Time Warner Cable Inc. and Bright House Networks. That's quite a collection of interests to keep in alignment, and Clearwire founder Craig McCaw (pictured) has stepped up his involvement in the wireless Internet venture to take on the task -- which, according to this interview with Bloomberg, he considers to be job one.

McCaw said he isn't worried about demand, instead focusing on delivering a product with technological validity. Above all, McCaw is focused on keeping all his partners on the same page: "If there will be one measure as to whether I've succeeded or failed in my time as chairman on this thing, it is: Did I administer regular beatings on people to put their selfish interests aside?" - Baz Hiralal

Even in a period when things like toxic credit default swaps and noxious structured investment vehicles dominate the conversation in many parts of the deal community, people are still willing to take the time to recognize skill and achievement in the strategic transactions that help those companies adapt and grow.
