QuestionMarkKeyboardBig.pngExpect to hear more about this later in the day, but two immediate questions raised by Hewlett-Packard Co.'s  release confirming its $13.9 billion acquisition of Electronic Data Systems Corp. are:

1. What were the trade-offs that went into the decision to keep EDS as a separate brand, headquartered in Plano, Texas, and run by current EDS CEO Ronald Rittenmeyer, who will report to HP CEO Mark Hurd? Avoidance of culture clash with an organization that has its own long history and way of doing things would seem to be one plus. Loss of some potential synergies looks like  a minus.

2. What role is envisioned for Ann Livermore, who as EVP for the technology solutions group oversees HP's services business, and who was reportedly in the running for Hurd's job when Carly Fiorina departed? She's not mentioned in the press release. - Kenneth Klee
