Telecom: Norway's Telenor seeks deals, and a sector wrap-up

GlobeGlobalWorldEarthBig.png Telecom deal news keeps breaking, from China and India to Sweden, France, the  Americas, and now Norway and Africa. Telenor ASA, at its Capital Markets Day gathering on Thursday, said the total number of subscriptions in its mobile operations has passed 150 million. Bloomberg.com reported that Telenor is actively exploring merger and acquisition opportunities, including some in Africa.

Telenor likes emerging markets. The company is also said to be seeking complementary businesses in existing markets, including Ukraine, Russia, Hungary, Serbia, Montenegro, Pakistan, Malaysia, Bangladesh and Thailand.

Telenor is also the second-largest mobile operator in Pakistan, with a subscriber base of 17.84 million and a market share of 20.6%. - Baz Hiralal
