Seeking to further expand its home infusion pharmacy division,
Walgreen Co. will acquire Express Scripts Inc.'s CuraScript Infusion Pharmacy Inc. for an undisclosed amount. CuraScript provides IV treatments for immune deficiency, chemotherapy and pain management.
Express Scripts divested CuraScript because it was a noncore business.
CuraScript will be integrated into Walgreen's home infusion pharmacy division, OptionCare Enterprises Inc. Walgreen
acquired OptionCare Enterprises last July for $850 million in cash. The follow-on deal accelerates Walgreen's move into specialty pharmacy, one of the
fastest-growing healthcare segments. Medco Health Solutions Inc. and CVS Caremark Corp. also compete in the field.
WIth 12 facilities in six states, CuraScript augments OptionCare's national coverage. The deal is expected to close in the next 30 days. -
