British confectionery giant Cadbury plc
is
said it is reviewing the future of its Australian beverage business, its only remaining presence in drinks. Cadbury spun off its North American beverage businesses, now known as Dr. Pepper Snapple Inc.,
in May.
The Australian business, which accounts for approximately 32% of
Cadbury's revenue in the region, could reportedly fetch around £600 million ($1.2 billion) and
could see interest from private equity firms, according to Reuters.
Unlike the North American beverage business, the Australian beverage business is integrated with the regional confectionery business.
Cadbury Brothers opened its first overseas plant in Australia in 1922
and in 1984 acquired Cottees General Foods, General Foods' Australian
subsidiary. The Australian
beverages
are all sold under the Schweppes, Cottee's, Solo, Spring
Valley and Sunkist brand names. The unit also has a license to manufacture, sell and distribute Pepsi, Red Bull, 7 UP,
Mountain Dew and Gatorade.
