The latest banker to make the switch to a corporate gig is William R. Sperry, who is taking over as vice president of corporate strategy and development at Hubbell Inc. Sperry has held managing director positions at both Lehman Brothers Inc. and J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. He was also previously a consultant at McKinsey & Co. And according to what we heard from recruiters in our piece on corporate development careers last fall, that background in finance and strategy consulting is what many corporations are looking for when hiring for M&A positions.

At Hubbell, a manufacturer of electronics and electrical products for the construction industry with a $2.43 billion market cap, Sperry will focus on developing growth strategy. He'll also be responsible for investor relations. The corp dev position is a new one at Hubbell -- a sign the company, which has made at least three acquisitions in the past 10 months, may be hunting more targets. - Suzanne Stevens
