Forget for a moment InBev SA's well-played takeover of Anheuser-Busch Cos. On Thursday we got an initial read on the success of the last big hard-fought cross-border brewing acquisition: The capture of Britain's Scottish and Newcastle plc by Heineken NV and Carlsberg A/S. Heineken reported a slight rise in profits in a tough market, according to the Telegraph, but analysts expressed some caution about S&N's contributions.

Heineken's now No. 4 in the global beerstakes--which doesn't seem entirely right, since it was the legendary Freddy Heineken who first moved on the idea of taking a beer, and a beer company, global.-Kenneth Klee
