To help finance its $52 billion acquisition of Anheuser-Busch Cos., InBev SA is planning to put its South Korean beer business up for sale.
Oriental Brewery, the second-largest brewery in South Korea, which sells Beck's and Stella Artois, could go for around $2 billion, according to
The Guardian. It was originally a
joint venture of InBev predecessor Interbrew and the Doosan group.
Deutsche Bank AG and J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. will apparently run the auction. Potential bidders could include Kirin Holdings Co. Ltd. and Asahi Breweries Ltd.
Meanwhile, Anheuser-Busch is broadening its portfolio to include energy drinks and high-end waters. The company has formed a subsidiary called 9th Street Beverages LLC to handle its nonalcoholic beverages, including brands like Borba Skin Balance Water and Monster, according to a
Reuters article.
