patrontequila125x100.jpgIn a Wednesday post about the frontiers of booze M&A, I cracked wise on the topic of tequila, opining that it tastes awful and gives you a headache.

Greg Cohen, who works with the Patrón Spirits Co., soon wrote in to say that while he enjoyed the post, I obviously haven't tried their tequila, or any other ultra-premium brand.

Which is true, so far as I can recall. In any event some people obviously think Patrón Tequila tastes good. Last year Bacardi Ltd. took a minority stake in the company, which also makes Pyrat Rum, according to The Deal Pipeline.

Closely held Patrón is based in Las Vegas. I just hope they didn't read what I said about the bikini parade there last week. - Kenneth Klee

From: Peter Pliskin,

You should try Cabo Wabo Tequila. It tastes amazing (I once heard it described as "Cactus Smoke") and actually makes you feel great the morning after. Pick up a bottle of Cabo Wabo Reposado this holiday weekend and give it a go. It won't disappoint.

From: Kingman,

Isn't that Sammy Hagar's tequila? I'm still waiting for David Lee Roth's brand.

From: MUCHOTE,

You all need to get off the mainstream, yes that was cool once apon a time. Now people are tasting new tequilas that are made in small production, by hand. If the mom of the kid next to you at your kids game is wearing a Patron tshirt that means it is time to move on to something new. Try MUCHOTE TEQUILA, a tequila that is all about the tequila inside the bottle and value, not about fancy bottles or a big marketing budget, Salud!

Even in a period when things like toxic credit default swaps and noxious structured investment vehicles dominate the conversation in many parts of the deal community, people are still willing to take the time to recognize skill and achievement in the strategic transactions that help those companies adapt and grow.
