WindowsLiveSearchBig.pngAt this week's All Things Digital conference, Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:MSFT) is expected to announce a new search engine, dubbed Bing, and an ad campaign to go with it. Microsoft may also be positioning for a joint venture or acquisition; last week it registered a limited liability company in Delaware.

Everyone knows Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) absolutely dominates Internet search, and even Microsoft's projected $80 million to $100 million ad blitz using every medium from TV to print may not enable it to siphon off any reasonable market share. But the strategy will be to convince people that its search engine produces better results than the competition.

AdvertisingAge.com writes that people with knowledge of Microsoft's plan said the ads won't go after Google or Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) by name, instead focusing on planting the idea that today's search engines don't work as well as consumers previously thought by asking them whether search really solves their problems.

Along with the debut of the new search engine, the creation of that LLC  is stoking rumors that Microsoft will announce a partnership with someone like Yahoo! or buy its Web search business. - Baz Hiralal

From: cca,

I don't get it... why did they get such a stupid name??? They should have bought something like find.com

From: Chris Ronk,

The name is fine with me. What is important are the results. It looks like they've taken search in a different direction. From what I've seen they offer a little too much information. It makes it so you don't even have to go to the site. That could be great for some users.

Oh well, I wait till June 3rd before I give my final judgment.

Even in a period when things like toxic credit default swaps and noxious structured investment vehicles dominate the conversation in many parts of the deal community, people are still willing to take the time to recognize skill and achievement in the strategic transactions that help those companies adapt and grow.
