DeviceVM Inc. has hired serial entrepreneur Cliff Miller (pictured) as
chief strategy officer. In the newly created position, Miller will lead corporate development and strategic customer and partner relationships for the privately held firm, whose Splashtop software allows consumers to boot up their computers and access key applications including e-mail within seconds. DeviceVM has received $40 million in venture capital since its 2006 founding.
Miller brings an extensive tech background and presumably deep relationships within the VC world. He founded TurboLinux in 1992, a Linux operating system provider that went public in Japan in 2001. Miller, however, left a few months prior to the IPO to found data storage provider Mountain View Data Inc., which was acquired by 3Leaf Systems in 2007.
When Miller founded Mountain View Data,
one analyst predicted his experience in Asia could provide a boost to his latest venture. It seems the folks at DeviceVM are hoping for the same. In the release announcing the new hire, DeviceVM chief executive Mark Lee said Miller's experience in "enterprise and OEM relationships, especially in China and Japan, are a great advantage for our growing business."
