When Hewlett-Packard Co. (NYSE:HPQ) announced its $13.9 billion acquisition of Electronic Data Systems Corp. in May 2008, we were among those
who wondered about the decision to keep EDS as a separate brand, headquartered in Plano, Texas, and run by
EDS CEO Ronald Rittenmeyer, who would report to HP CEO Mark Hurd.
HP changed course in December of 2008, announcing that
Rittenmeyer would retire and that EDS would be folded into HP's technology solutions group, led by EVP Ann Livermore. EDS is now led by Joe Eazor, the unit's former EVP for corporate strategy and development, who reports to Livermore.
So how is the integration going now? It's about
two-thirds complete, according to an interview with David Gee, vice president of global marketing at EDS, in Australia's ITNews. He expects the job to be complete in November.
Gee also says there may be some smaller acquisitions and sales ahead in business process outsourcing, IT outsourcing and
application services as HP shapes its services offering. -
