Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) chief executive Carol Bartz was
quoted as saying, "I personally think we'd be
better off if we never heard the word Microsoft." Bartz made the comment in reference to all the attention the Internet giant has been getting over a possible search engine deal with Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:MSFT).
Reuters took the quote at the Bank of America U.S. Technology conference, where Bartz also diminished the prospects of
Microsoft's new search engine, Bing. She said it may get some temporary hype but doesn't change the game of search where Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) is master.
Bartz is probably sick of the constant question about Yahoo!'s search business. Last week, in a
video interview with Tech Ticker, Bartz said Yahoo! is not a search company and would seek to monetize its 76% reach of the U.S. Internet audience by keeping users happy by way of social, mobile and video. -
