dig.jpegA House committee on Friday approved a resolution requesting the White House turn over all relevant information about its role in the restructuring of General Motors Corp., Chrysler LLC and Delphi Corp.

The House Financial Services Committee made the request, which would not have the full force of law if passed by the full chamber but would be hard for the administration to ignore. Barney Frank, D-Mass., chairman of the committee, said the Republican-written resolution has an objectionable tone in places but is a worthwhile effort to gather information.

The resolution asks that the White House automotive task force, which spearheaded the quick rinse bankruptcies of GM and Chrysler, to turn over to Congress all of its information. Lawmakers have been up in arms about aspects of the restructuring, particularly the automakers' decision to terminate hundreds of dealers while in bankruptcy. - Lou Whiteman
