Staples Inc. (NASDAQ:SPLS) has hired Amee Chande as senior vice president of strategy. Chandee, who will report to CFO John Mahoney, will take a lead role in developing and executing Staples' global growth strategy.

The office products retailer is banking heavily on its international operations to help offset sluggish demand at home. That was made clear with its aggressive pursuit of Dutch office products supplier Corporate Express NV, which Staples acquired for $4.8 billion last summer.

Chandee previously was VP of new business development for Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE:WMT), which has taken a patient approach to expanding into developing markets such as China and India. Staples already operates in 22 countries, and Chandee's experience at Wal-Mart should help as it expands its global footprint even further.  - Suzanne Stevens
