MarvinWheeler125.pngTerremark Worldwide Inc. (NASDAQ:TMRK) has promoted Marvin Wheeler to chief strategy officer. Wheeler previously was COO and president of the U.S. commercial business.

The IT infrastructure services and data center company -- which offers hosting, disaster recovery, cloud computing, security and other services to clients --  is hoping to strengthen its business through strategic alliances and acquisitions. It will be new territory for Terremark, which to date has focused largely on organic growth.

As The Deal's Baz Hiralal noted in this post, the data management industry has seen an uptick in M&A, including data center and Internet exchange provider Equinix Inc.'s (NASDAQ:EQIX) $689 million cash and stock acquisition of Switch & Data Facilities Co. (NASDAQ:SDXC). And tech titans including Cisco Systems Inc. (NASDAQ:CSCO), Dell Inc. (NASDAQ:DELL) and IBM Corp. (NYSE:IBM) are active in the space as well.

Meaning Wheeler will face plenty of competition as he works to expand Terremark's market share. - Suzanne Stevens

Even in a period when things like toxic credit default swaps and noxious structured investment vehicles dominate the conversation in many parts of the deal community, people are still willing to take the time to recognize skill and achievement in the strategic transactions that help those companies adapt and grow.
