Who we are
Corporate Dealmaker's mission is to help companies succeed in deal
economy.
We look at transactions from the
corporate point of view, showing
dealmakers in every industry how to execute
their strategies more
successfully. We inform and connect a growing community
of deal-focused
executives working in corporate development and strategy,
finance, law
and other areas.
We serve this
community by examining deal trends and spotlighting best practices in:
-
Acquisitions
- Divestitures
- Joint ventures and
minority investments,
and a host of sub-disciplines, including:
-
Deal-sourcing
- Due diligence
- Negotiation
- Valuation
- Post-merger
integration.
Our content is generated by both financial journalists and deal
professionals.
Launched in 2003, Corporate
Dealmaker is a brand of The Deal LLC, the
authoritative voice of the deal
economy, and producer of The Deal
newsweekly, The Daily Deal and The
Deal.com, among other products.
Along with this Web site, Corporate Dealmaker
also publishes special reports in The Deal magazine and we organized a two-day conference in 2008.

Submission Guidelines
Corporate Dealmaker welcomes content contributions from qualified
writers. Contributors include corporate dealmakers as well as service
providers in consulting, law and banking. Contributions range from
brief Web posts to 2,500-word magazine articles. We're particularly
interested in hearing from corporate dealmakers willing to share their
experiences and observations; in expert commentary on different aspects
of dealmaking; and in helping to publicize opportunities for
networking and learning.
For any kind of content, the best way to get an idea of what we're
looking for is to read what we've already published. Here are some
other tips for different kinds of contributions:
1. Web posts. These typically run 250 words or less, though where the
topic warrants we can include more text on a jump page. If you're a
first-time contributor, drop us an e-mail first to see if the topic's a
good one. Web posts are good for timely commentary, for calling
attention to a study or report available elsewhere or for letting the community know about an upcoming or
just-completed meeting.
2. Articles for our quarterly reports. These usually start with a
simple query, asking whether we're interested in a piece on a
particular topic. We then move to an outline and then a completed
manuscript. As at other professional journals, the editing is rigorous;
we'll ask you to approve the final version of a piece before we go to
press. All this takes time, so it's best to pitch a topic at
least three months before publication date. For the same reason, topics
should be of enduring interest, suitable for a quarterly publication.
(For more on our magazines, including issue themes, see below.)
Articles may be as short as 700 words (one page), but most are
1,200 words or longer. A few figures or graphics may be useful; our
graphics team will need to redraw them to fit with our format.
Every report also contains a 900-word "Legal
briefing" column, in which an attorney briefs the audience on a
deal-related legal issue, followed by a 900-word "Accounting notebook"
column, in which an accounting professional does the same. Pitches for
these are always welcome.

About our quarterly reports
Corporate Dealmaker will be published quarterly in 2009 and
delivered to all readers of The Deal magazine. It's divided into
three sections, and we welcome comments and suggestions for all of them:
-
Connections: Job changes and other noteworthy activities by
corporate dealmakers. Also, a quarterly Q&A with a dealmaker of
note.
- The Thinkery: Examines more specialized topics as they relate to
dealmaking, including law, accounting, intellectual property,
outsourcing and more.
- Features: Each report has an editorial
theme around which we organize three or more articles. Themes for 2008
are:
Feb 23: Strategics and distressed investing
April 6: Valuations and deal terms
July 6: Corporate development careers and recruitment
Nov. 2: Most admired corporate dealmakers

Even in a period when things like toxic credit default swaps and noxious structured investment vehicles dominate the conversation in many parts of the deal community, people are still willing to take the time to recognize skill and achievement in the strategic transactions that help those companies adapt and grow.
