Two U.S. energy companies make headlines today.

In Texas, Chesapeake Energy Corp. agreed to take $796 million worth of oil and gas assets across the state, increasing its portfolio to 7.6 trillion cubic feet in assets.

This is the second deal in two months for the Oklahoma City-based company. Chesapeake closed its acquisition of Columbia Natural Resources LLC for $2.95 billion in November.

Meanwhile, in a story exclusive to The Deal, Ellora Energy Inc. is expected to announce soon that it has hired Petrie Parkman & Co. to explore its options, which could include a sale for the Boulder, Colo.-based company. Maybe Chesapeake is interested.  —Carolyn Murphy
