Friendster forced to go it alone

In a story exclusive to The Deal this morning, online social networking pioneer Friendster Inc. has learned that it’s not always good to be early.

A loss of market share, a dwindling user base and depleting funds forced the Santa Clara, Calif.-based company to hire Montgomery & Co. to shop it late last year, but the auction has concluded, with no taker.
