Pac-man's next pill: Sepracor?

  Share     E-Mail    Discussion    Print Story

Pac-Man.gifFirst it was AstraZeneca plc that was rumored to be in play; now it is Sepracor that big pharma — namely Pfizer Inc. — reportedly is coveting. To oblige business reporters who seem to be throwing names into a hat since Schering AG was sold, analysts contacted by CNN Money entertained the thought of who might bid for the biotechnology company. Obviously the perennial Pac-man of the industry, Pfizer, was top of the list, but Schering-Plough also made the list of possible acquirers. Of course, Pfizer also is on the short list of AstraZeneca buyers. Perhaps Pfizer's auction of its over the counter and consumer products division, which includes Listerine and Sudafed, is driving the speculation. After all, what would the company do with all that cash?—Matthew Wurtzel
