For UnitedHealth Group and smaller insurer Coventry Health Care, the adage "good things come to those who wait" couldn't ring more true. The two health insurers were the lone holdouts in a class action brought against nine insurers in 1999. Physicians charged the insurers under federal racketeering statues, claiming they were not compensated properly. On Tuesday, a federal judge in Miami issued a summary judgment order in favor of the two companies, dismissing all remaining claims in the case. Of course, seven insurers over the last seven years settled out of court, coughing up $660 million in total. Interestingly, the racketeering case never affected UHC's acquisitions. —Matthew Wurtzel
