Ghosn speaks!

  Share     E-Mail    Discussion    Print Story

After days of silence from the Nissan and Renault camp, CEO Carlos Ghosn finally gives the business press something to write about on a slow Friday. One of the statements Ghosn made about the types of returns his companies would like from a GM deal has led to some contentious debate. "I would consider that a deal becomes interesting if the (probable) opportunities are about 10 times the (probable) risks," Ghosn said. The Detroit Free Press spoke to analysts who seem to think that Ghosn is setting the bar too high. The analysts all seemed to agree that Ghosn may be looking for an exit strategy in the event the terms are not favorable to his side. Some went on to suggest the deal is basically dead because of this comment. At any rate, with over two months before the Oct. 15 deadline, expect Ghosn to say something conflicting with this statement. —Matthew Wurtzel
