This date in deal history: DaimlerChrysler shakes up management

  Share     E-Mail    Discussion    Print Story

July 28, 2005: After a series of high-profile acquisitions faltered and its stock slumped to a six-year low, Germany's DaimlerChrysler AG kicked chief executive Jürgen Schrempp out of the driver's seat and handed the keys to the head of its U.S. division Dieter Zetsche. Thanks to the restructuring, Americans TV viewers are now subjected to daily reminders in the form of Chrysler commercials featuring Zetsche that a once great icon of American industry is owned and operated by Germans. —Matthew Wurtzel
