World_Cup_2006_logo.gifAdidas' sponsorship of The World Cup and acquisition of Reebok has translated into a big score for the company in the form of strong second-quarter earnings. The German sports-apparel company reported a solid second-quarter profit boosted by sales of World Cup gear as well as revenue from its acquisition of Reebok. One item contributing to the rising sales is the company's new soccer ball called the Teamgeist, of which the company has sold 15 million at a retail price between $113 to $138 as of June 28. Overall, Adidas' profit jumped 24% to €82 million ($105 million) with revenue up 60% to €2.43 billion. The results topped analysts expectations of a profit of €71 million on revenue of €2.36 billion. — Gerald Magpily
