A Money Honey for Fox Business News

  Share     E-Mail    Discussion    Print Story

AlexisGlick.jpgLook out Maria Bartoromo because Fox News has hired its own Money Honey. Alexis Glick, a former correspondent on NBC's "Today" show and a former reporter for CNBC's "Squawk Box," signed on as the No. 2 business executive behind Neil Cavuto at Fox News Channel on Tuesday a move that suggests Fox is nearing the launch of its long-awaited business news network to rival CNBC. Glick will help direct Fox's business coverage and appear on-air if Fox owner News Corp. finally decides when to start the business channel. That new channel has been rumored for years, but Fox chief Roger Ailes has said he won't launch the network unless he gets strong distribution on cable and satellite systems across the country. Considering Glick was a candidate to replace Katie Couric on the "Today" show couch, it is a safe bet she only would have taken a seat next to Cavuto if a dedicated business news channel was imminent. However, Glick is expecting her third child, so don't expect the network to fly until she returns from maternity leave sometime in 2007. Finally, Glick's recent stint at "Today" furthers the speculation that Fox Business News might not necessarily be a pure competitor for CNBC's Wall Street-based coverage. Although Glick actually has banking experience — she started her career at Morgan Stanley's NYSE floor operations — she spent much of her time on the "Today" show presenting business news for a wider audience. —Matthew Wurtzel
