Buffett's family values

Share     E-Mail    Discussion (1)     Print Story

For a person known for his privacy concerning family matters, Warren Buffett, the world's sixth most powerful person according to Vanity Fair, has been getting a lot of press as of late concerning his family. A week after the Oracle of Omaha married his longtime companion, reports surfaced that Buffett "disowned" his son Peter Buffett's adopted daughter, Nicole Buffett. Why such an extreme measure? The young woman appeared in the new documentary "The One Percent," a follow-up to "Born Rich," according to the New York Post. Both films chronicle the lives of children of the ultra rich. While the first documentary often painted bad pictures of its subjects, evidently the follow-up did not portray the young woman in a negative light, according to the Post's Page Six column. However, appearance in the documentary may not have been the only reason he "fired" his granddaughter. According to excerpts of a letter he sent her, Buffett was also upset about her appearances on NPR and Oprah. The news about the tiff with his granddaughter comes a week after Buffett held a very exclusive wedding ceremony — only his daughter Susie was present aside from the justice of the peace. Buffett married longtime companion Astrid Menks, who he's been "friends" with since the late 1970s when Buffett's first wife, Susan Buffett, left Omaha to live in San Francisco. The new Mrs. Buffett lived with him and took care of him in a situation that his first wife, who died in 2004, not only approved, but actually encouraged, according to a New York Times story. It's no wonder why Buffett kept his family life on the down low. —Matthew Wurtzel

From: Pat,

Warren, shame on you. You should learn the saying.... "Forgive them for they know not what they do!". I'm sure you've made mistakes in life as well. Let's hope that when you stand before the gates of heaven someday with not one red cent to buy your way in, that the man upstairs can forgive you for your shortcomings as well. I'll pray for you and your Granddaughter!
AMEN
