A dealmaker's long shot bid for president

Mitt_Romney.JPGMitt Romney may not be electable to the highest office in the land not because he made his millions as a corporate raider, but rather because he's a Mormon, according to a Los Angeles Times article. Actually, the story makes no reference to Romney's affiliation with Bain Capital, which he helped co-found. While the conservative Republican may have had what it takes to win in fiercely liberal Massachusetts, his religious beliefs may be a sticking point for the rest of America. Sure, he's a good looking successful businessman turned politician with an Ivy League education, but some can't get over his Mormon background. While one would assume those questioning his faith would be secular-minded voters, the Times article suggests otherwise. It seems Evangelical Christians may be the most vocal about his religious beliefs. It looks like Romney may not be the modern-day conservative Republican version of John Kennedy after all. —Matthew Wurtzel
