Earlier in the week Dealscape highlighted a Los Angeles Times story questioning dealmaker-turned-politician Mitt Romney's electability to the highest office in the land. Only days later, online magazine Slate chimed in on the other side of the argument saying that the Republican-base of Evangelical Christians are ready to embrace the Mormon governor of Massachusetts. It's hard to say which publication is correct. Interestingly, the two take different paths to come to their conclusions. The Times spoke with lay people, while Slate examined Evangelical intellectuals and leaders. Slate highlights that Evangelicals have put aside animosity toward Catholics and established a working partnership with conservative Catholics to elect like-minded politicians. The Slate article suggests that this trend could apply to Romney's campaign. Oddly, there still was no mention of Romney's past as a dealmaker who founded Bain Capital. —Matthew Wurtzel
