Blackstone files for an IPO

Blackstone Group L.P. has filed the preliminary prospectus for an IPO raising up to $4 billion. It helps to answer some, but not all, the questions that had absorbed much of the financial world for the last week.

The prospectus says that part of the proceeds will be used to buy back stock from current stockholders — Blackstone’s founders and other partners.
