GM is (not) interested in Chrysler

  Share     E-Mail    Discussion    Print Story

Chrysler SebringAnother day, another batch of DaimlerChrysler AG rumors to sort through. For starters, The Chicago Tribune is reporting on General Motors's motivation to bid on the Chrysler Group: labor negotiations. Evidently, buying Chrysler might free GM from certain constraints in its contracts with the United Auto Workers allowing GM to make massive layoffs otherwise not possible. Of course, the reasoning depends upon whether GM is actually bidding on Chrysler because according to The Detroit Free Press, GM walked away from the table in January and never came back. —Matthew Wurtzel
