BofA may sue ABN

  Share     E-Mail    Discussion    Print Story

Although a Dutch court could negate ABN Amro Bank NV's agreement to sell its U.S. subsidiary LaSalle to Bank of America Corp., that hasn't stopped BofA from warning the Dutch bank not to accept Royal Bank of Scotland plc's rival bid. The Charlotte, N.C.-based bank has threatened ABN Amro with a $220 billion lawsuit — over 10 times the size of the LaSalle deal — should it renege on the side deal to the ABN Amro-Barclays plc merger, according to The Times of London. Of course, if the Dutch court thwarts the deal, then BofA will have no legal recourse to pursue the suit, according to the British daily. The Times of London doesn't explain where the figure came from, and the story offers no sourcing. —Matthew Wurtzel
