Coke seeks healing waters

  Share     E-Mail    Discussion    Print Story

As sales of soft drinks go flat, Coca-Cola Co. is reportedly looking to expand its portfolio of noncarbonated beverages through a possible purchase of enhanced water maker Glaceau, according to Beverage Digest. Earlier in the year, Coke bought juice and tea maker Fuze for $225 million. The Fuze deal prompted Dealscape and others to suggest Coke may seek an acquisition of Jones Soda Co., which currently is valued at $681 million. However, while Glaceau's $2 billion price tag may seem rich in comparison, its Vitamin Water brand is more widely recognized than Jones, which is primarily sold at Target stores. Vitamin Water was famously visible during the Super Bowl and is endorsed by New York Mets star David Wright, who also reportedly owns a small stake in the company. —Matthew Wurtzel
