The Chinese are coming

  Share     E-Mail    Discussion    Print Story

The New York International Auto Show has come and gone, and no Chinese manufacturers made any noise. They were apparently saving their efforts for their home market. The Shanghai Autoshow has opened, and some of the Chinese carmakers — particularly Chery and Rowe — are reportedly showing off designs that look like they'd have been right at home in New York's Javits Center alongside Toyotas, Hyundais and Nissans. So far no word on whether these models will head across the Pacific, but it’s really just a matter of time, meaning the clock is ticking for America's Big Three to complete their restructurings and upgrade their product offerings.—Matthew Wurtzel
